Design & Fabrication for Stage

Distillation is a response to the recent cessation of the peat harvesting industry in Ireland. Luke Casserly collaborated with renowned perfume maker Joan Woods to create a unique distillation of the Midlands bog – the place where he grew up – as the starting point for an olfactory encounter that looks at our human relationship to place. We designed and created the bespoke table that forms the setting for this interactive and performative journey, that takes the audience into the Irish bog landscape through scent.

This hugely successful and unique show was co-produced by the Abbey Theatre and Solas Nua, Washington DC. Distillation has been performed in numerous locations across North America and will tour nationally in 2026.
